About the Event

The latest word on writer’s block seems to be that it doesn’t exist.  Which is an entirely unhelpful point of view if you’ve ever been stuck staring at a blank page.  In this workshop we’ll look at tricks our brain plays on us to stop the flow of words, and techniques we can use to turn the creative tap back on. Write a new scene and brainstorm the end of your WIP in this interactive workshop. The target audience? Writers wanting to summon their muse and get the engine running.

About the Facilitators

Mel Anastasiou is a Canadian mystery writer who divides her time between London, UK and Bowen Island BC.  Among other projects, she blogs on time management for writers, writes the Stella Ryman and The Fairmount Manor Mysteries series, the first of which was longlisted for the Leacock Medal for Humour, the Seven Swans series, and the Monument Studios Mysteries. A founding editor of Pulp Literature Press, she works in acquisitions and story editing, and is the in-house illustrator.

JM Landels wears nearly as many hats as Bartholomew Cubbins: writer, editor, artist, equestrian, and swordswoman are just a few.  She is the author and illustrator of the fantasy bestselling Allaigna’s Song trilogy and is currently working on The Shepherdess, a historical fantasy about a shepherdess-turned-spy in 17th century France. She is the managing and production editor at Pulp Literature Press, and head of Academie Cavallo, a school for mounted combat in Langley BC. She has given talks and workshops as far afield as Washington state and DC, California, Montana, England, Germany, and France, as well as in Canadian cities from Vancouver to Halifax, and many points in between.
